Families in Action
The next 10 week session of Families in Action will begin Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 PM and run from March 20th,2007 thru May 22nd,2007. NAMI of Kalamazoo with help from Gryphon, InterAct, KCMH Family Support Services and many parents developed the Families in Action program.
The initial program was funded by a grant from the Kellogg Foundation, Upjohn and United Way. All costs for the program in our area are covered by Kalamazoo Community Mental Health so there is no cost to participants. Families in Action is now offered throughout Michigan and taught by NAMI members. It is an education program for family members and friends of those persons who have a mental illness, especially geared for families of persons who have a severe and persistent mental illness.
The four goals of the program are as follows:
1) Help the ill family member become as healthy and as independent as possible -
2) Significantly lower family stress -
3) Make family members effective partners in the treatment process, and -
4) Help families get support from each other and other existing sources.
If you would like to participate in the upcoming session or would like additional information, please call Mari McKinlay at 276-0207 to register.
