NAMI is an advocacy, support and education organization. Even though our services are free we hope that you will consider joining NAMI. While we do not charge for our services there is considerable cost to our organization. Some of the things that you will receive by joining include; membership in NAMI of Kalamazoo, membership in NAMI Michigan, Membership in NAMI national, our local newsletter, the state newsletter and the national magazine the NAMI Advocate. The best reason to join is the ability to help individuals with mental illness and their loved ones. This may be accomplished by using the money that is given through membership and donations. More importantly individuals within our organization may volunteer in projects that help individuals afflicted with mental illness. Furthermore it is by our numbers that we will be heard by our legislators, educators and health care professionals. If I write a letter to my Senator it will have little impact if any. But if a thousand of us write a letter, call or visit our Senator I can guarantee that we will be recognized.
